What comes to mind when you think of Los Angeles? Mass-produced movies in LA readily supply crisp and colorful images: sunshine, palm trees, ultra expensive cars, glamorous parties clad in couture, endless summers of idleness and leisure.  Fortunately, LA youth are not only rock-star wannabes and gossipers, obsessed with latest fashion and rhinestone-encrusted cell phones. We are proud to say, that we are more than that.  

In the beginning, eight Los Angeles Rotaract clubs embarked on a mission to feed the homeless, read to children, raise Polio awareness, and accomplish the impossible. These eight clubs went forth determined to conquer all. However, the Rotaractors of District 5280 saw the need to combine their strength and unite as one, realizing that together, all things are possible.  
 
Today, District 5280 has grown into eleven clubs, including two community-based clubs. The Rotaract clubs of Los Angeles have stepped into a new era, launching their own leadership team, ranging from Malibu to Carson, Pasadena to Palos Verdes Estates. Under the leadership of supportive Rotarians, our Rotaractors have created and fostered a firm foundation to improve our community. Our clubs are proud of the differences we have made, from cleaning the beaches to donating wheelchairs in Costa Rica.

 Some say, “What is Rotaract?” The answer is simple…we are the young adults that step forward when we are called. We plan to change the image of our youth and fix the problems of our society, making a difference in the lives around us. Our Rotaract District was recognized as an early adopter and leader by key Rotary and Rotaract leadership in connection with "America Canada Caribbean Together" an organization that forms a tri-country alliance, moving towards the goal of communicating with thousands of Rotaractors in over 400 Rotaract clubs. In 2006, Rotaract District 5280 hosted a landmark USCC. After proving that we could rise to the challenge, we are humbled and enthusiastic to host the 2008 Rotaract Pre-Convention.  

The LA 2008 Rotaract Pre-Convention is an opportunity for us to dazzle you with all that Los Angeles has to offer. Our Rotaract Host Organizing Committee is poised to bring you an unforgettable mix of service and star-studded events. From a service project in the Hollywood Hills to hip nightly social events, you can revel in the Los Angeles scene while leaving our city even better than when you first arrived. We’ll also ring in Rotaract’s 40^th Anniversary with a very special Luncheon. We feel privileged to host the world in our beautiful city. As we prepare for 2008, we look back to 1905 when it all began. We are reminded of our pledge to service and integrity as Rotaractors. Our team is eager to continue the mighty Rotary journey with you in Los Angeles.
