VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES DURING LA ’08!

As part of the world’s largest service organization, surely the members of the Rotary Family who are coming to Los Angeles will be interested in volunteer opportunities while they’re here!  You’ll have a chance to volunteer your time in a number of ways during the Rotaract Preconvention Meeting and RI Convention:

  1. Youth Village in the House of Friendship: Staff the 12 booths dedicated to the Youth Programs of Rotary (Rotaract, Interact, Youth Exchange and RYLA.)  Share your Rotaract Club projects and activities with Rotary Family members from all over the world!  Volunteer at the “California Dreaming” surf scene as a photographer.  There’s lots of opportunities!  Rotaractors who experienced the youth area in Salt Lake City last year commented that they wanted a highly interactive and expressive place in the House of Friendship.  We need everyone’s contribution to make this a reality!  Bring your enthusiasm and spirit to the Youth Village.  The House of Friendship will be open Saturday 14 June 2008 through Wednesday 18 June 2008.  Times are 0900-2100 Saturday and Sunday and 0900-1900 Monday through Wednesday.  Register online at www.rotary2008.com/la2008hoc/volunteers.html

  1. Starry-Eyed Service Project: Collaborate with the Interactors at “Shane’s Inspiration” at Griffith Park on Tuesday 17 June 2008. Spend the morning changing lives, putting smiles on children’s faces, and being in the largest municipal park with urban wilderness area in the United States!  You will have the opportunity to spend time with children with disabilities, help them with crafts and play with them in the playground. “Shane’s Inspiration” was the first Universally Accessible Playground in the Western United States and the largest in the nation. It is located on 2 acres in Griffith Park, featuring a number of fantastic play structures. Visit http://www.shanesinspiration.org for more information about this great organization and register for this free event online at http://www.rotaract2008.com/register.html

  1. Wide World of Books: Members of the Rotary Family from around the world will attempt to break a Guinness World Record by donating children’s books at the RI Convention.  Books are being collected in any and all languages.  Hundreds of thousands of books are expected!  Volunteers are needed on Saturday 14 June 2008 through Wednesday 18 June 2008 at 1800 to help move the books from the House of Friendship to storage trucks.  Can you help us?  Email Tori Hettinger at tori.hettinger@rotary5280.org

  1. Hollywood Bowl Super Stars: Come volunteer at Rotary Night at the Hollywood Bowl and receive free admission. Rotary reserved the whole Hollywood Bowl for a special presentation … don’t miss out on a chance of a life time! The Hollywood Bowl officially opened in 1922 and is known as one of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world. It seats almost 18,000 people!
